WEEMS is a metadata repository intended to house primarily geospatial, environmental and biological metadata. It links information compiled and maintained by local municipalities, non-governmental organizations and the scientific research community into a single source that is available to public national and regional programs.

The Geospatial Metadata repository contains metadata that pertains to geospatial datasets. It is based on GeoNetwork, an open-source web-based metadata catalog servlet that accomodates ISO 19115 standard metadata.

The Biological Metadata repository contains metadata that pertains to biological datasets. It is based on Metacat, an open-source web-based metadata catalog servlet that is intended for use with Ecological Metadata Language (EML) metadata.
